·        C. auris became reportable in New Jersey in January 2026; local health departments are expected to start conducting routine C. auris case investigations by January 2027.

·        The Communicable Disease Manual Chapter for C. auris is now available on the NJDOH C. auris disease webpage (see “Resources”).

o   Additional training and educational resources developed for local health departments are also available on the C. auris disease webpage (see “Resources”).

Background
The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) is excited to share that several new Candida (Candidozyma) auris (C. auris) educational and training resources for local health departments (LHDs), including the disease chapter, are now available on the C. auris disease webpage. C. auris became a reportable condition in New Jersey in January 2026 and LHDs are expected to start conducting routine case investigations by January 2027.

In addition to the disease chapter and supporting resources developed for LHDs, NJDOH is offering a webinar and office hours series to provide LHDs with practical education and training in routine C. auris surveillance, case investigation and outbreak response. These sessions will equip participants with the knowledge, tools, and guidance needed to confidently identify, investigate and respond to C. auris cases and outbreaks. Please see the attached flyer for instructions on how to register for each webinar/office hours session.

Recommendations for Local Health Departments

·        Read and review the C. auris disease chapter and supporting resources for LHDs (see “Resources”).

·        Register for each C. auris webinar and office hours session (see attachment).

·        Ensure LHD staff are familiar and comfortable with the expectations and responsibilities for C. auris case investigations by January 2027.
