Good morning:
You are receiving this health alert and the attached corresponding materials in both English and Spanish to alert you of a recent disruption involving a controlled substance prescriber (CDS) and the potential impacts for patients.
The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) was informed of a prescriber disruption that occurred involving a Hudson County, New Jersey based primary care provider who prescribed CDS. An immediate suspension order was served to the doctor by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Patients receiving care from this provider were receiving prescriptions for medications such as buprenorphine, opioid pain relievers, benzodiazepines, and stimulants.
This incident has led to a disruption in access to CDS for approximately 350+ patients, leaving patients at-risk for withdrawal symptoms due to an abrupt discontinuation of these medications, or overdose if they turn to the illicit drug market. Additionally, abrupt withdrawal from benzodiazepines can be life-threatening.
