The New Jersey Department of Health is sharing the below/attached information from the New Jersey Poison Center (NJPIES):

As reported in the medical literature and news, xylazine is increasingly prevalent in the unregulated drug supply. The toxicologists at NJPIES have been consulted on several cases with significant dermatologic reactions.  Attached is some information we are trying to disseminate to Emergency Departments and specialists, such as those involved with wound care and infectious disease, since they may called upon to help care for patients who have been using Xylazine and/or have developed Xylazine related wounds.

To get a better understanding of epidemiologic patterns in NJ we are asking health care professionals report any potential cases to NJPIES at 1-800-222-1222.
