Please find attached the NJDOH vector-borne surveillance report for week 36. Report highlights: To date, there have been 3 confirmed WNV cases (1 fatality) reported in Camden, Essex, and Gloucester: 7 probable cases (1 fatality) in Bergen, Burlington (2), Camden, Middlesex, Passaic, and Somerset counties awaiting confirmatory testing, and 1 asymptomatic viremic blood donor reported in Burlington County. West Nile virus (WNV) has been detected in 49 mosquito pools so far this week and to date, 776 pools have tested positive for WNV. WNV activity in mosquitoes remains above 5-year averages. 20 pools have tested positive for EEE in southern N.J., which is higher than the same period in 2020, but is consistent with 5-year averages. The variety of mosquito species that have tested positive, however, is of concern. There have been no EEE human cases and 3 EEE horse cases reported in 2021.
